"What a coincidence: Eragon has shown up on consoles just in time to coincide with the release of the movie of the same name. One look at the film's trailer, or even the cover of the game, and you can get a pretty good idea of what you're in for: A short licensed game filled with half-assitude. The game features your typical hack-and-slashery, with only a limited amount of combos to speak of. Eragon isn't your standard kiddy fare. Oh, there will be blood; not to mention broken necks, shattered spines and oof - plenty of crushed nuts."

"From now on, Eragon should be referred to as the poster child for games ported into the next generation. The Xbox 360 version of the game doesn't look much better than the Xbox version (in fact, several people approached my desk and were amazed that it was actually a 360 game), and while some of the environments look decent, nearly all of them suffer from repetitive design. The audio is slightly better, although the score does get a bit tiring after a little while. The voice work is solid throughout, although the villains were a bit on the hammy side. Unless you're a big fan of the books, there's really not any reason that you should purchase Eragon. The game doesn't feature much in the way of plot exposition (a shame, since I'd heard very good things about the book), and the presentation is just plain awful. I mean, you know it's bad when you are simply told between levels that you've learned new abilities or gained new weapons. Nearly every aspect of Eragon is a disappointment, from its straight-outta-the-current-gen graphics to its poor in-game camera."

"Eragon isn't worth the brief amount of time it takes to play through it. The gameplay and presentation aren't up to snuff and the storytelling cutscenes don't do their job at all. Games based on movies are notorious for not living up to their big screen cousins, but all of the elements for creating a good action game of this nature have been laid out in the past so there isn't any excuse. Even if you're a huge fan of the fiction, a rental is the most time you'll want to spend with this game. Even that might be pushing it."

And while fans of the book might forgive some of its faults, it's equally possible that they'll be even more annoyed than other gamers because Eragon failed so miserably to live up to its potential. That's a real shame, because Stormfront Studios proved with The Two Towers that they absolutely were capable of delivering what Eragon required. But as a whole, Eragon feels rushed and slapped-together as a low-budget attempt to cash in on the holiday film release and make a quick buck from the fans before word gets out that it's not worth half its retail price."

"Eragon is, in the end, a competent fantasy beat-em-up on PS2 and Xbox, and a fairly sloppy port for 360. The only thing that can be held against is that it's a brand-new game that looks like it's already been around the block a few times. Well, that and it might have insultingly undershot the target demographic a bit. Most of us were better at these kinds of games when we were young. Tweens or teens could play through this game with their thumbs cut off and a frontal lobe tied behind their back."

from the commercials it looks pretty bad. i can't believe they even would release it on Xbox 360 w/o any upgrades from the Xbox and PS2 versions (which are crappy enough)

I cant believe they would even RELEASE it at all!

I played the demo and it was complete crap. Worse than the Superman demo.

Oh yes, me to. I recommend it as well. Get Eragon and the next one in the trilogy, Eldest. They are extremely good. Way better then the game... haha. WAY better.
