Xbox 360: How to connect the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
Last Review : November 19, 2005

SUMMARY
This article describes how to connect the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller to an Xbox 360 console.

MORE INFORMATION

To connect the Wireless Controller to the Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold down the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green
"X" near the center of the controller.

2. Make sure that the Xbox 360 console is turned on. If the console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on the Xbox console.

3. Press and release the connect button on the Xbox 360 console. The connect button is the small round button on the Xbox 360 console.

4. Press and release the connect button on the controller. The connect button is the small button on the front edge of the controller.

5. After the Ring of Light spins and flashes one time on the controller and on the console, the controller is connected. The quadrant on the Ring of Light that remains lighted indicates the position in which the controller is connected.

Notes about the Wireless Controller
• The controller remains connected to the console even when you turn off the console.
• The controller is connected to only one console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different console at any time, but your connection to the previously connected console is lost. You must repeat these steps to reconnect the controller to the original console after your connection to the console is lost.
• The controller works within 33 feet (10 meters) of the Xbox 360 console. However, objects between the controller and the console may reduce this range.
• If the controller does not turn on, the batteries may have to be replaced.

There's this little thing on the top and it let's you eject the battery pack. Just pop it out so it loses it's metal connections and it's turned off. It saves you about 4-8 seconds, compared to if you actually hold the guide button and turn it off.

There are also no side or detrimental effects.
