Here are some do's and dont's that I recommend you follow. I will update this list regularly.
DO - Give it room to breathe. The Xbox 360 can build up much heat over a good amount of playing time, which is why there are fans in the back. Make sure you keep room behind the console so the hot air has room to leave the Xbox 360 and room to escape the general area and disperse throughout the room. if you place the console too close to a wall or a shelf, the hot air leaves the console, but then stays back there. If your Xbox is against a wall right now, turn it on for a hour or two, then put your hand behind it, it can get very hot. Make sure to leave 4-5 inches from the end of your power cable, that should be enough to cool it off. If you can't move it that far, make sure it's as far as it can go without being in danger of falling. DON'T - Block the fan in the back of the console. That is one of the easiest ways to ruin the hardware. If you hear your fans pulsating or if they are louder than normal, that means that they are working too hard, move your Xbox out, or turn it off immediately. DO - Make sure it is cool. When you place your Xbox 360, make sure you don't put all of the cords directly behind it. Also, make sure the cords aren't tangled up. Cords generate heat, even with the rubber/plastic covering. When they are tangled up, they can become very hot and even over heat. So make sure that the cords aren't in a bundled mess, and they aren't directly up against the Xbox. DON'T - Put the cords in dangerous areas. Make sure they are in places where you don't trip on them. DO - Leave room for the disk tray. Make sure there are no cords blocking the tray opening or closing. It probably won't do serious damage, but it's one more way to increase your console's life span. DON'T - Put your Xbox where it can't get anything on it. Don't lay it on the ground where things can accidentally spill on it or drop on it. Also, don't eat off of it. That is the biggest mistake ever. DO - Keep it clean. I keep better care of my Xbox than most people do. It may be a little creepy, but I clean off my headsets, controllers, Faceplates, and my console while I'm playing a game or in a loading screen. Cleaning it regularly keeps dust and other residue out of important areas. - All written by Aurora Gaming. I will update this list regularly.

Do - Flash your 360's Firmware to save your cash and have hundreds of burnt games.
Do Not - Cover your 360 with a towel after it has over heated from long gameplay. Do Not - Think you can flash a 360 with no experience and no proper tools. It can screw up the whole programing.
