The main reason why Halo 3's leveling system is flawed is because it's based on your wins. Now I really don't know why Bungie would make it this way. Are they stupid? If you go into matchmaking alone your not going to win all of your games no matter how good you are. You will always have someone on your team who isn't trying, or is just terrible and goes -15. I get so pissed when i loose a ranked match because ONE player on my team can't get kills. For instance i win 3 straight in SWAT and finally go up a level. Then I lost one because ONE person on my team was crap and I level down. This is the only reason why I still find Halo 3 frusturating, otherwise its a very solid game. There are people who are high ranks but are crap, the only reason they rank up is because they always get on the good teams or they have friends who are good. The matchmaking system is so flawed because someone can be a 40 and be terrible.

If you leveled up according to your individual skill Halo 3 would be much more competitive. People get so tired of leveling down because their team is crap so they stop playing. And dont say just play with your friends because not everyone has a friends list full of people who plays halo.

Really? I just killsteal. When they all have shields down I jsut throw a grenade and they all die. Really, I hate Lone Wolves because its impossible to ever go on a killing spree in that game. Since it's ffa.

I do that as much as possible, but on maps like Epitaph its impossible because there is like 1 BR on the whole map, and everyone just rushes with the AR its sooooo annoying. The only way to go on a killing spree in Lone Wolves is to get a shotgun and camp, or use the BR. But because of Bungies stupid spawning you might get killed from behind

I'm feeling your pain as you say that. That's why when you run into Generals into any game type, you can not assume that they are good. I've gotten an Overkill/Extermination against 3 Generals in 1 game. Basically showing me that they aren't even that good. Not saying that I'm good but saying they're bad.

I'll play Swat with you if you want, I'm a 46 in it.

I agree about the leveling. It is severely broken. I quickly went to a 42 in team slayer and then played a lot with some friends who were only going to max out at 20-something. I dropped down to a 35 pretty quickly but I did not care because I could just as easily gain it back. Wrong. While working my way back up I frequently encountered the multiple wins, no level gain, single loss, level loss scenarios as well as scenarios like this: W,W,W (+1), W, W, L (-1). The worst was that to proceed from 40 to 41 again took me 14 consecutive wins!

I do not know if the right solution for the team games is to rank per player or not. They are team games after all and it is important to consider that each win or loss is the cumulative result of each team's effort. I never want to see the case where members of the losing team rank up. It is very frustrating though to have an excellent game but still lose because of one single lame player.

I wish there was a way to vote players out of the game. You can make a vote to boot a player and if every other player votes that way then the player gets booted. It would be great to remove the guy who is going -15 from the game.

Never assume a underanker like Lt. or even down to apprentanice becasue most of them if you looked closer theyre skills are high but no exp and i find them more skilled than a general personally because social slayer isnt really up to your ranked criteria and its just on other place were noobs fell more welcome and generals feel like they are the best that halo has provided them but really halo has provided noobs and pros which chances are pro are taken and noobs are forgotten and are thrown in ranked playlist and social matches...well noobs werent created by cheating they were created when pros beat the H*** out of 5 yearolds when they were begging for theyre milf moms a piece meatloaf...srry but its the truth

i didnt know thats why i couldnt level up. i know sometimes i feel like im playing great, and my level goes down, but when i feel like im playing horrible my level goes up.

but your right the ranking system is pathetic. they should rank based on k/d ratio in slayer, and points scored. or something like that.

I've stopped going for my 45, I win like 5 games, and when I lose one game I go down. Its stupid.

Alright, here's all the info I've heard about the Halo 3 ranking system...

~ Every game judges you as an individual player, as well as your team's players. If your team loses however, that overcomes your individual performance no matter how well you did. So no matter what, if you lose, you lose.

~ Winning gives you a small exp% (probably about 10%) added onto how the game tracked your individual performance, no matter how bad you did, you win.

~ You and our teammates' skill levels and ranks do not factor into a equation much, if at all.

~ Going on a winning streak doesn't effect your exp% at all.

~ Going on a losing streak doesn't either.

~ Disconnecting subtracts from you a small exp% (like 5%) from your next game, whether you win, or you lose.


^ Those are all the things I've heard, and some of those do look reasonable.

yeah it took me a while to find out. when halo 3 first dropped all i played was team slayer, i just went in by myself not knowing that bungie screwed up the leveling system. now my level is stuck at 37 and im pretty much done at trying to get it higher. no point to waste my time.

I remember complaining about the leveling system before, nothing ever seems to change in this game with that problem. I've won 7 in a row with my 46 before and didn't go up and then i lose 2 in a row and i go down. Now I'm stuck between a 45 and 46 and it refuses to give me my 47, no matter how good i do.
