UK, August 1, 2008 - Speculation on the villains for the next Batman film is coming thick and fast, with the U.K.'s Daily Telegraph throwing two new stars into the mix.


The paper, quoting "unnamed sources," says that Warner Bros. have targeted Johnny Depp to play The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman to take the role of The Penguin.

According to their source: "Producers are convinced that the role of The Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny's a pro. He'll be able to take direction and still make the character his own. And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman?"

Depp and Hoffman are being tipped to play The Riddler and The Penguin.


This comes off the back of the rumour we heard earlier this week that Angelina Jolie is interested it the role of Catwoman.

Bat-fans will remember that Jim Carey was the last actor to have a crack at playing the Riddler in Batman Forever, whilst Danny De Vito portrayed the villainous penguin in Batman Returns.

i knew the riddler would be in a 3rd batman movie, but not the pengiun.

im not to sure about hoffman, if christopher nolan is filming the 3rd, he wont use any actor but the best. so im sure it'll be good

Boooooo! We've already had a Batman movie with The Riddler and Penguin. Why don't they break out some new villains. Especially since anyone who takes on a role of a previous villain is going to have to bring it just like Ledger did with Joker or people will say they suck.

To be honest, i don't think any other actor will live up to be such a villain that Ledger did. The next movie might be awesome but i don't know if anyone can be so twisted like The Joker was.

cause you dont give them a chance. im sure people thought that there was only one great villain before heath ledger, and once they saw the joker. then that sets the bar for them. theres only been 2 'new' batman movies, with tons of great canidates for a villain. im sure this one will be succeded very easily.

.. We haven't given them a chance yet because the movie isn't out yet, we don't know who the villain will be, and what role the actor will be playing. It will obviously succeed, but succeed past The Dark Knight? I don't know ..

there starting over from the begining..so this is not batman part 6 its #3 coming.

and i hope Freeze isnt in this one
