Yes you do have to use the grey ethernet cable that came with the 360.I know cause I had the same problem.

Well that's what it was for me. When I found my gray cable and connected it instead of my other one, I was able to connect immediately.

You said it' a CAT-6? I have never heard of that, so maybe you were using a CAT-5, xerxes, and you needed a CAT-6?
I don't know...I guess it doesn't matter, now.
