Once you have the wireless adapter connected do you need a WEP key and if so I cant find mine on my router or my computer so some help would be appreciated

Basically I dont want to buy an official wireless xbox360 adapter for it not to work and require a WEP key before connecting. The thing is my dad wont let me get xboxlive so it will be hard to acquire the WEP key to connect as he wont tell me it. I know the 360 adpater is plug n play so will a WEP key be required?

please can someone help me with this as im really stuck as to what to do and this is meant to be a troubleshooting forum yet no one knows what to do ;)
