When i finally got my 360 i took it out of the box and hooked it up to the tv and started playing. Then later as i was throwing the box out i noticed a little flap on the side of it that said lift for serial number. When i did i found no serial number just a hole leading into the box so my question is: what is the serial number ment to be on? I havent thrown anything out that i got with the box because of this.

the serial number is on your console i believe and that flap i guess it used to see the serial number when the console is still in the box.

Yeah, your correct. If the console is still in the box, you can lift the tab and see the serial number on your console.

yeah, there is also a barcode, just for buying purposes and insurance parts.
