Hello. I have an Xbox 360 here that is overheating I believe. It starts up fine, but then after a few minutes, the screen turns into this dark purple and green lined up dots looking thing (basically, goes blank). After that, it won't even boot up until you've left it alone for a few hours. There is still sound and you can use the controller when the screen goes blank. There are no red rings or any other oddities with the Xbox 360 itself, or the power brick. Thanks.

Plug everything out and plug it in after waiting a few minutes, check if anything changes.
Can you hear anything on the xbox 360 when you start it up If you can hear but not see then you would need to call xbox 1-800-4-MY-XBOX

Yeah, it's actually a cousin in laws Xbox 360. She said that it was going blank, but when we tried it at her house, it wouldn't even boot up. I brought it here to see if it was just the display, that's when it would do the blank screen thing, and then not boot up after a while. So yeah, I've unplugged everything and plugged it back in. We're past the regular warranty, but I think it would still be within the 3 year RROD warranty. So should I just keep trying to start it up and wait for the RROD, or should I take it apart and see what's up? And yeah, it does look like a checkerboard pattern kinda.

Oh, by the way, thanks for the extremely quick response Dan, and for all the quick responses from the rest of you. I posted the same message on the xbox forums and haven't gotten a thing from them in 3 days. You guys are awesome.

Yeah, and be honest. There's no reason to lie in a situation like this. They'll ask you about everything to see if you're faking it, or if the problem is fixable. If its not, then you get to send your Xbox in and the warranty covers for you!
![]() Depending on where you live, it could take you 2 weeks to 3 months, for you to get your Xbox back. So, hopefully you live in Texas.
