Default Unreadable Disc Error

I'm constantly getting the "unreadable disc" error with Madden 09 and Head Coach 09 but not with my other games. I've cleaned the laser using a qtip and alcohol and still does nothing. I've cleared the cache and does'nt fix it. My xbox is about 2 years old and the manufacture date on the dvd drive is 4/06. I'm thinking of replacing the drive with a new one.

Has anyone replaced their dvd drive which fixed the "unreadable disc" errors???

I already have. My Warranty has expired and to replace the drive will cost me $99. For that much I'd rather replace the drive myself or find a local shop that will fix it. Manufacture date of my 360 is 5/06 and the drive is 4/06 so perhaps I just need to replace it. Its just odd that only Madden 09 gets this error and none of my other games.

I've had this problem but it wasn't as bad. In the middle of gameplay I'd get an the message, but when I took the disc out and put it back in it was fine.

Well I have it bad and its only happening to Madden 09. I've read in other various forums that Madden 09 is having all kinds of issues.

If it's only happening to one game then the problem is the disc,
not your drive.

I've exchanged it 3 times at best buy and EA even sent me a brand new copy under warranty. I purchased the collectors edition which has Madden 09 and Head Coach 09 and all 6 discs were getting the errors. I just don't understand how all copies can get the read errors though.

I found a local repair guy that will install a brand new drive and if it doesn't work he'll give me my money back. I look forward to this game every year and I'm really annoyed I can't play it. I may just go get a PS3, which I've been debating on anyway specifically for the blue-ray player.

Well it is most likely the disc not the drive as stated above. Remember that new is not perfect.

I am surprised that you got a free copy from EA, they like to blame a lot of stuff on other companies and make customers jump through hopes just to get support.

It's the drive.

I'm just confused as to how some of us are getting this error while others aren't. I understand it is the disc but what else is there left to? Do you think the older 360's could be having the issues? Mine was manufactured 5/06. Does anyone have any ideas? I guess changing out the drive would be last resort or just can't touch madden this season. I think no matter how many times I exchange the disc I will get the error.

Just change the disk drive. Or if you're cheap and you don't want to spend money just RROD the 360 and send it in. Either way, it's going to be a long time before you get to play Madden.

i hate to sound harsh, but unless you know how to get into the hard drive and tinker around with what you need to do, then it's time for a new hard drive. From what it sounds like, you could easily copy over your games saves so you won't lose any information. You'll have to give up some money though.
