In a similar situation a few years ago I did:
1. I bought 2 50ft cords and then bought a connector and ran those through my house.
2. I got tired of the 100ft of cord and drilled holes in the floor... much easier and no one noticed the hole...

I'll try to figure out how long of a cable I need...it might need to be longer than 100 ft though

you need 2 100ft cables (of doom) and then just hook em through a router midway or so and then connect laptop wi-fi BAM!

If you have anything faster than DSL wireless shouldn't really matter, but other than that you must get a ethernet cord!
