Reiz your getting it too right? me and you in full RTS glory mate.
Im getting it due to the fact its an RTS made by a company that can put together some darn good RTS's problem is i think that the halo-esque-ness is whats going to strangle the game for us RTS players. But i think microsoft will make up with it in sales from halo fanboys |

There wasn't even supposed to be a Halo 3. Microsoft interrupted Halo 2 production and changed it into what it is- A butchered story, and without multiplayer Halo 2 sucks. The only reason there is a Halo 3 is so Microsoft could have a "Killer-app" for 360 only.
Multiplayer is Halo's only saving grace, but hopefully the storyline in Halo 3 can finally finish. Microsoft is just milking the Halo series for sales, console and game-wise. They extended the series and are now taking it into different genres. To Jerry: Yep, I'll get it. Too bad either Unit selection is going to suck, OR the game is not going to be canon. You know we'll get internet rtards spamming 117's if we have heros, right? I mean, that's the cool thing to do. |

Was it on this board that someone said that it could almost rival Star Wars >< that still amuses me
And yes i do agree about the oh so large milking of the series HappyCat: yea then again its coming from the guys who did AoEmpires if im not mistaken, great RTS. But they didnt have anything to be cannon to. Which is going to be the one big draw back of the game. Im guessing well have what 4 ground units and 2 air? Maybe 8 structures. Kinda blows. If you think about it, Bungie will want it largly cannon for all the kids, but you know there gonna say its gonna be hard to keep it very cannon since you dont have a large set of units relseased. Im sure theyll stretch it and itll be the same character models just one with a rifle the other with an smg, and thats about it >< If you think about it Halo lacks a lot of good things to be an RTS. As for heroes I hope not that would be kinda lame >< i could just see it now. But hey be easy to be high on the leaderboards with all the little kids not knowing what there going to be doing. Man my trashtalking skills are going to be greatly increased during this time. Definetly if its going to have 2v2 lotr was just too darn hard to find a good game in >< |

Basicly, the unit selection is like this... (Getting back on topic since I get yelled at alot for derailing topics or whatever)
Aliens: Hunter, Jackal, Grunt, Elite, Drone, Brute Humans: Marine The only difference is that the marine equivalent of a hunter will have a rocket launcher, the jackal marine will have sniper, the grunt marine will have assault rifle, the elite marine will have the pistol probably, and the brute marine will have a shotgun. Might as well make it a Team Fortress RTS or something. As for vehicles, you have 4-5 on each side, Warthog/Spectre, Wraith/Scorpion, Ghost for aliens, Pelican/Dropship and Banshee/Fighter. Not a great range of units, not really a strong story either.. it's been told before and in a better way (a FPS Game). Just like LOTR:BFME, the gameplay was decent, the balance was okay, but the story was lacking because it'd been told already in a better format (a cinematic movie.) I'm doubting this game will be worth it's hype either, just like Halo 2 and I fear- Halo 3. The only reason I'm renting it is so Jerry and I can play games together. You know, because we have a hard time choosing games out of the Xbox 360's wonderful library of top-notch games. |

Yea thats what i fear the most. RTS have a completly different set of requirements which must be met to make it a good game in the eyes of the player. Most of which have not too much to do with that of FPS's key priorities.
RTS's dont need blaring nice graphics like many FPS players demand(even though you dont even get a character model beside a hand which is just shoddy and cheap) An RTS game can lack graphics but you need unit variety, balance, sound sound sound. Its relatively easy to notice repetitive noises in an RTS thus should be avoidied when possible. One thing halo wars is not going to have for its self is unit selection. Due to the fact it has to stay fairly cannon for all the 12 year olds, they wont be able to expand too much on units. And unit variety is a big deal in RTS's, curent gen RTS's have land, air and sea vehicles, with many multiples of each. Something the halo-esque-ness wont be able to duplicate. Also the story i fear wont be oh to interesting as it too must stay cannon. And will probally lack lots of flavor and originality because of this sad fact. Its story will most likely revolve around one rag tag bunch of marines doing nothing that will impact anything, but theyll throw in some visually apealing cinematics to keep the "oh this game isnt that great" people hooked on for that much longer. Not only that fact, if they do any form of online its going to be dumb. With only two people to choose from itll get repetitive very quickly i assume. Hopefully Ensemble will turn something out worthy of a built-from-the-ground-up-for-a-console-rts |
