A supernatural horror action game with a story devised by the master mythmaker, novelist and filmmaker Clive Barker. Mingling the darkest elements of Barker's horror fiction and films, Jericho deals with the mysterious reappearance of a lost city in a remote desert. When a form of evil that goes right back to the dawn of days resurfaces from there, a Special Forces squad, trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, is sent in. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the evil that lurks at the heart of the city before it destroys humanity.

Clive Barker Summoning New Game
The horror master is teaming up with Codemasters to scare the bejeezus out of gamers.
by Daemon Hatfield
July 18, 2006 - Clive Barker's Undying was a critical hit when it arrived back in 2001. Now it looks like the director/author/professional creepy guy is ready to get back into games, as he has apparently struck a deal with Codemasters to develop a new mature-themed game for next-gen consoles and PCs.
According to Reuters, via The Hollywood Reporter, Barker was drawn by a videogame's potential to allow the player to explore many paths in a story, rather than the one path the viewer experiences in a book or movie. Titled Clive Barker's Jericho, the game unfolds in an elaborate quest to reach the innermost sanctum of a place called -- wait for it -- Jericho, where evil incarnate is hangin' out. The player is part of a special forces squad trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts.
"There are things in my imagination which I think can only be paintings, things that can only be books, and this thing has to be a game," Barker said. "Is there a movie in it later? Sure. But what it has to be is what it's going to be first, an absolutely killer game."
Barker assures his fans he is "involved every step of the way" of the development process, and is working closely with Codemasters to bring his vision to life.
"I don't want to give too much away just yet, but the concept is that somewhere in northern Africa there is a walled city which is not just a walled city but walls within walls within walls," Barker said. "It's like Russian dolls, spaces within each other, and trapped inside each space is a slice of time where the warriors of good have gone against ultimate evil and have lost."
As players progress through the game, they will be battling through time, as each area holds enemies from a previous historical era. "Some are evil, some are not, and you have to make up your own mind," Barker said.
"It becomes a more primal experience as well, because the means of combat become more crude and the people become in a way simpler," he said. "I think the player is going to get quite a series of spectacles because they get closer to something that makes the devil look like Pollyanna."
The horror auteur was previously working on a movie and game called Demonik, but the project stalled earlier this year. Providing Clive Barker's Jericho stays on track, it should see release in late 2007.

"Major new blast from Clive Barker’s cannon of nightmares to appear as supernatural horror video game.
Codemasters, the developer and publisher of critically acclaimed video games, has signed a new supernatural horror concept and story devised by the master mythmaker, novelist and filmmaker Clive Barker.
The deal will see Codemasters work with Barker to realize his concept as an original paranormal/horror gaming experience. The alliance is a further significant move for Codemasters as it expands its portfolio and collaborations with major entertainment owners and creative talent. Titled ‘Clive Barker’s Jericho’, the game will launch exclusively for next-generation console platforms and PC, late in 2007.
Clive Barker’s Jericho is being designed as an action horror title that will up the stakes in visuals and phantasmagorical special effects. Mingling the darkest elements of Barker’s horror fiction and films with an ambitious, age-spanning story, the title will be aimed at mature gamers, fans of Clive Barker and horror fiction enthusiasts.
Says Clive Barker, “It’s incredible when a company as admired as Codemasters embraces your vision the way they have embraced Jericho. This project is very close to my heart and I don’t believe there’s ever been anything like it. It promises to be the most spectacular, creative, and unflinching realization of a Clive Barker nightmare that will drag players in kicking and screaming.”
Clive Barker’s Jericho deals with the mysterious reappearance of a lost city in a remote desert. When a form of evil that goes right back to the dawn of days resurfaces from there, a Special Forces squad, trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, is sent in. Their mission: Hunt down and destroy the evil that lurks at the heart of the city before it destroys humanity.
“Players will constantly be given new challenges, new environments, and yes, new horrors and abominations to face every step of the way,” continues Barker. “However, unlike a conventional game in which the characters are attempting to escape at the end of their ride through Hell, our protagonists have a much more difficult task. The closer they come to the end of their trek into darkness, the nearer they get to the source of that darkness: Evil Incarnate, we’ll call it for now...”
Says Barry Jafrato, Codemasters’ Senior VP of Brand on signing the deal with Barker:
“Clive’s astounding skills in creating the darkest of fantastical scenarios that twist our dreams makes him the perfect creator for a rich horror video game. The visual and audio capabilities of the next-generation gaming formats will enable this project to be realised as an incredible experience with scenarios and cinematographic effects that will both thrill and terrify.”
Clive Barker’s Jericho is now in development for next generation consoles and PC and is schedule to launch late in 2007."
"Created from an original concept and story, Clive Barker’s Jericho promises an overload of sensory horror shock as players journey through hellish locations and slices of time. A squad-based horror FPS, the Jericho of the title refers to the Jericho Team, a seven-man strike force that protects government interests from paranormal threats. Trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, each Jericho Team member is an expert in different para-psychological disciplines, including clairvoyance, alchemy, blood magic and exorcism.
Clive Barker’s Jericho leads the Jericho Team toward a source of ancient evil so supremely powerful that it has broken through time into our world and is threatening to engulf the Earth. At ground zero lies the Middle Eastern city of Al-Khali, the site of a huge, secret archaeological dig and paranormal research centre, now the heart of a dimensional rift.
Players must navigate Al Khali’s labyrinthine of streets, alleys and structures, moving block by block in search of the rift. As the squad approaches the target, the city now crawling with hellish denizens emerging from the source, the team is forced to rely less and less on traditional weapons and instead on harnessing their combined psychic abilities to defeat the supernatural nemesis no matter how horrific their looks or attacks may be.
Licensed by Alchemic Productions, Clive Barker’s Jericho is currently in development at Mercury Steam. The game will utilise the Madrid-based studio’s new proprietary next-generation graphics engine to bring the monsters and demons from the depths of Barker’s imagination to life. The engine marries photo-realistic art with hyper-realistic colour and lighting effects to achieve a uniquely dark and almost surreal visual atmosphere, dropping players into the heart of Clive’s chilling interactive nightmare."
Based on this and Barker's earlier game, Undying, this game has a good chance to be the best horror game ever!
