August 17, 2007 - The year is 2020 and all is not well. A joint project between the United States and the European Federation with peaceful intentions has had the opposite effect. A missile defense system created by the two unions has made nuclear warfare impossible, removing the most terrifying weapon man has created from the table. It should be a day of happiness. But without the threat of nuclear weapons that kept the Cold War from becoming an armed conflict, conventional warfare on a large scale once more becomes possible. And with a growing need to secure the dwindling global oil reserves, war becomes necessary.
EndWar begins as this new world conflict is escalating. The nations of Europe have come together to protect their interests, forming a superpower that can rival the United States. Once allies, the United States and European Federation are quickly moving apart as the competition for resources intensifies. Then there's Russia, making a triumphant return to the videogame world. The Cold War foe has renewed its interest in being a mover and shaker on the global front.
Through the first six levels of EndWar, you'll see this ramp up to war from each of the three sides. Unlike most games, there won't be a single hero nation; each union has legitimate reasons for fighting and for being fought against. They also have their own unique weapons and strengths. The Joint Strike Force (America!) has equipped their soldiers with the unmanned support vehicles and stealth tech. The Russians focused on a more brute force tactic, loading down the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade with more and bigger guns. Raw power is more important than mobility for the Russians. Last, but not least, the European Enforcers Corps have developed more elegant solutions to war. Energy weapons, non-lethal solutions, and other highly mobile weaponry are their specialty.
When full scale war breaks out, you'll be forced to pick which of these three sides you'll support. From there, the story turns non-linear but focuses on the North Atlantic theatre as these three superpowers duke it out for supremacy.
And that is only the beginning, which is why IGN is putting together a massive first-look at this unique real-time strategy game. Check IGN on Monday, August 20 for new details, screenshots, and a video interview. Until then, try not to start any world conflicts.

Hmmmm... sounds interesting. I'm not completely stoked... not yet. Hopefully we'll get some more good information over the next month or so!
