Those among us who were less than thrilled at Microsoft's Mii Too avatars being integrated into the 360 dashboard had one modicum of comfort: That some day we would be able to find the overly-cutesy house they lived in in Grand Theft Auto V and murder them with a baseball bat ... until they died from it.

Sadly, it appears we won't be getting that chance. Speaking at Microsoft's Gamefest event, Xbox Live GM Eric Kilgore [/irony] said, "the final guide we have this year is to think of them in an 'E10' context. That doesn't mean it won't change – but this fall they won't be able to blow each other's heads off." Their heads don't explode, and our hearts break. We hope you're happy now, Microsoft.

That's how things work in that business. To be successful you're not going to think of every single idea on your own. We've seen plenty of things being copied from other things before, nothing new.

I think this is a great job, if they are gearing to family and kids with avatars, having games where you can blow their brains is not good for business.

Still, now we don't get the full avatar experience, because most of us don't buy E games.

You know what... I don't buy the whole family friendly cop-out crap. Family freindly games and casual gamers didn't make the 360 the console it is. WE DID. The hardcore gamer made this console great. Now they add this silly garbage and turn their backs on us?

If the 360 continues to gear towards hardcore gamers, then that is the only audience the 360 will get. If microsoft continues the xbox with the next generation, then it needs to grab everyone, not just the hardcore.

That's kind of to be expected. There is no way Microsoft would create this whole "family-friendly" and "easy-to-use" interface, only to have the main new feature (Avatars) be decapitated in Manhunt 3, or whatever.

Jack Thompson would have a field-day if we could literally make a killing-simulator.

News flash for all of you who think the casual gamer is going to make a huge impact on the gamin industry or will become a huge checkbook... the only reason the videogame industry is where it is and the only reason it survived the late '80s and early '90s is because of HARDCORE GAMERS. If not for us these systems wouldn't even exist... so they need to quit shifting their focus away from us and realize that they owe their existance to us.

They are not shifting focus, they are merely broadening their vision to include casual family gamers.
