Microsoft roaring in for Lionhead?

Rumours fly that Molyneux’s studio is about to be snapped up in the jaws of MS

Microsoft is close to acquiring Lionhead Studios, the developer helmed by industry legend Peter Molyneux and responsible for Fable on Xbox, according to rumours screaming out of the Games Developers Conference.

The speculation seems to have exploded after Molyneux failed to show up for a panel discussion at the GDC, which came to and end last week in San Jose. The buzz amongst attendees of the show is that Molyneux was catching the first flight back to Blighty – so he could sign on the dotted line with Microsoft.
And quoting ‘well-placed sources’, industry website GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Microsoft has outbid rival games publisher Ubisoft for Lionhead. An announcement is expected within the next few days, according to GI.biz.
But Microsoft is staying quiet on the matter. “Microsoft does not comment on rumour and speculation,” said a spokesperson for the giant when we put the rumours to them this morning.
Molyneux has been discussing the possibility of selling Lionhead for years now. Microsoft has often been named as a potential suitor, especially as it published Lionhead’s most successful console game, Fable, on the original Xbox.
And with an Xbox 360 sequel said to be currently in the works, acquiring Lionhead would be a sensible move for Microsoft. As a publisher, Microsoft Game Studios has experience both in the PC and console fields, and the sheer talent and vision of Molyneux and his team would mean we could look forward to some fantastic Xbox 360-exclusive titles.
Needless to say, though, this all still needs to be filed in the rumour cabinet. We’ll keep you up to date with any further developments about the possibility of Microsoft adding Lionhead to its pride of development teams.

it would be GREAT if this happens since Lionhead (developer of Fable) has great potential, especially with this next-gen hardware of the 360

it wasn't just the features that he promised that weren't there that made it disapointing, the WHOLE game was just way off what it was hyped up to be.

i sort of expected it to be along the lines of Morrowind in terms of depth and size and then also have amazing graphics. of course, it was as deep as a puddle and the game's world was puny...not to mention i beat it clocking in at under 10 hours :( :( :(
