How Long Til We Get XBLA Games On PC?

As can be witnessed by their decision to, after only a year, cut their losses and start offering the service for free, Microsoft's Games for Windows Live initiative hasn't exactly set the world on fire. But just because it hasn't, doesn't mean that it can't. What could help spice things up a little? How about, oh, the ability to play XBLA games on both your 360 and PC? Would that help? It's something Microsoft are obviously thinking about, because after being asked about the subject by 1UP's Shawn Elliot, Microsoft's Kevin Unangst replies:
There's lots of issues about price points and models and the benefits to publishers — you have different developers that do things on different platforms. It certainly interests us, and it's one of many things we talk about, the fact that we have a service that spans both platforms opens up all kinds of opportunities like that. When we feel like we have all of the right pieces together, and we have partners who tell us they want to do that, you can expect that it's something we'll look at, much more closely.
Interesting, no?

The reason why Games for Windows if failing because that it doesn't have much LIVE-compatible games on the PC.

As a PC gamer, then a console gamer, I have to say that XBL style service has been on the PC for a while and for free. There are applications that Games for Windows gives already popular. Also, other then Halo 2 (Vista Only) and ShadowRun, I can't think of any Games for Windows. Unlike the 360, Microsoft can't make game publishers use one online service for all games. This is a concept that works well for consoles but not PCs.

On top of that, Microsoft has not made a central location for Live on PCs. With other similar services, like Steam, you have on location to go to get all of your information. Live does not have that for PC (at least that I know of).

As for the change from Fee based to Free, well most PC games have clans that run servers. These clans pay for the servers, and most of the time it is by donations. If you have to pay for Live, and a server, then you are basically paying for three things (you have to have your internet also), to play one game.

If they were to bring XBLA to Live PC, that would be fine by me, and I may even buy some games. It would be cool if I could buy it once for both systems, but we are talking about Microsoft.
