Default Lost and Damned earned 18 million online and 3 million retail

Analyst: Lost and Damned earned $18 million online, $3 million at retail

by Alexander Sliwinski { Mar 16th 2009 at 2:47PM }

Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) analyst Jesse Divnich's crystal ball predicts brick-and-mortar retail sales of GTA IV's expansion, The Lost and Damned, to be less than $3 million. He believes current global sales from customers who purchased it across Xbox Live to be around $18 million. This latest bit of analyst prognostication comes following Pachter's missive (translated from an Illuminati memo) that GTA's biker expansion could sell upwards of two million units by year's end.

Although the 6-to-1 online vs. retail ratio seems dramatic, is it really surprising when The Lost and Damned was promoted as a DLC pack anyway? In this case, retail was just a middle man, as those who purchased the "game" at their local bodega received a card with a code to download the expansion. All we really know at this point is that the game is selling very well.

Not surprising really. Digital distribution is becoming ever more popular.

Yeah, let's hope they balance the prices out if that is the case. Would be stupid if games that had become second hand at retail were still full price to download.

I had to bite my teeth when I spent 20$ for ONE download (unlike getting song packs for Rock Band) but its was worth it and if it wasn't for games like Killzone 2 and RE5 I'd probably be playing it right now.

Most expensive downloadable content isn't worth it though, imo.

i think its funny how some say this is overpriced, when images less than 100x100 pixels cost a dollar, themes cost more than a dollar, 3 or 4 maps cost 10 dollars, and name changes cost 10 dollars also. i dont hear too many people complaining about all that.

if the lost and the damned came out on the ps3 i probably would have paid 40 dollars for it. it looks so awesome, new guns, new vehicles, new multiplayer modes and clothes, new missions, new activities, and its replayable too, and for me gta only gets boring after non stop play. i think thats a pretty good price for what your given.

i also hate digital distribution, i only use that when its the only option and i really want something that bad. i perfer hard copies and disc expansions so much more.

The cost for a name change on Xbox Live is bordering insanity. Microsoft love to nickel and dime their customers. (Yeah, I know Sony are jumping on the boat as well with Home).
I prefer hard copies too, will be a shame if hard copies ever become a thing of the past.

I'd rather have the actual box and CD than buy it online. I'm like that. Except for Arcade games, maybe.

The only reason consoles are pushing for digital distribution . is because they are cutting out the ability to resale the game. In the long run that means more profit for the developer and publisher, rather then a third party reseller like GameStop.

Indeed. At least it is not just the consumer that loses out, the games stores will as well which means the change will happen less quickly.

Yeah. GTA has made it's name now. Unless they release a really poor game, I can't see the franchise becoming any less popular than it is now.

Really? I don't know. I do have access to a Nintendo DS Lite though with a Cyclo DS card so I might try and download it from somewhere.
